El Principio del Fin

A lot of things are ending this time of year; school, piano, yearbook, Hannibal season two, and this project! 20Time really has changed the way I look at work and how I spend my time. I’ve learned to appreciate an hour to myself. Wednesdays will always be ‘magico miercoles’ to me. None of this hump day business. I’m not sure I want to not have 20time as a project next year. I hope the publicity our 20time project has gotten at Dow will inspire other teachers to consider putting this project.

Onto better things, I drew Robert Downey Jr! You may also know him as Ironman. I’m proud of some parts and not so much of others (let’s not talk about the nose…). But I’m also doing something fun in art class right now. I’m doing my 20time project in art class! For the last six full days, I get to try new mediums of art. I decided to do an abstract rainbow watercolor drawing, and a minimalist etched glass drawing of Will Graham from Hannibal. It’s a part of my mourning process for him.

I’m actually considering continuing the blog over the summer. Maybe or maybe not in Spanish, but showing my art this way is actually kind of cool and fun.

En las semanas pasadas, solamente podía pensar de las cosas que van a terminar pronto. Por ejemplo, escuela, piano, yearbook, y este proyecto. No sé si que quiero revolver a clases sin 20tiempo el proximo ano. 20tiempo he cambiado y mejorado mi vida.

No quiero admitirla, pero la verdad es que solamente he dibujado cuatro de mi diez retratos! Debo cambiar mi gol a cinco retratos, no? No me importa que no completé mi gol; hay cuatro retratos en este mundo que son lleno de significado y trabajo duro, porque tengo este proyecto.

Actualmente, hay cinco retratos. Hice otro retrato de Robert Downey Jr. Él es un actor, quien era Ironman en las Marvel películas.

Termine el dibujo en dos horas y catorce minutos. Original

Es el final dibujo. Estoy orgulloso de algunos partes, no de otros. La chaqueta fue divertida a dibujar. Usé un tipo diferente de papel, y la textura fue fácil a hacer. Creo que trabajar en mis claros y oscuros.

Decidí dibujar este porque:

1)    Él está fumado. No apoyo el fumar, pero nunca he dibujado este. Es algo nuevo e interesante para tratar.

2)    El pelo y barba. Sabía que los dos van a ser difícil. Pero si sabía que pudiera hacerlo correctamente, será perfecto. Creo que hice lo con el pelo. Con la barba… no.

3)    Él no tiene una sonrisa. Es la última razón que usé esta foto. No está tratando a ser guapo; es una expresión diferente. Eso es que quiero capturar.

Mi mentor y profe de arte, Mr. Gledhill, dio mi clase un proyecto que es similar que 20tiempo. Podemos hacer cualquier cosa. Tiene que son como arte, pero es un ‘automatico A’ porque si estamos trabajando, recibimos un A. Tengo los seis días últimos de escuela para hacer este proyecto. En mi mente, combiné el 20Tiempo y ese proyecto. Pero aquí, tengo la oportunidad a hacer cualquier cosa con materiales que no tengo en casa.

Quería experimentar, con materiales y medianos nuevos. Por ese, estas dibujando dos dibujos. Un de agua color y otro de vidrio grabado al aguafuerte. He completado el agua color. No me gusta el final dibujo, y mi amiga lo quiere. Voy a darlo a ella. El vidrio grabado al aguafuerte es sobre una programa que veo. Se llama Hannibal. Es un minimalista dibujo del protagonista, Will Graham y su mente. Es mas interesante que pienses. No tengo fotos de esos. Incluiré pronto.

Para terminar, quiero hacer un autorretrato.  Algo que tiene todas las partes que tengo que mejorar en. Creo que voy a hacer difícil… pero estoy emocionado para hacerlo. 

El 20Tiempo Proyecto

The 20Time pitch night was an amazing experience. In short, I gave out about 20 business cards and talked with a ton of amazing people. Everybody from peers who I had known since elementary school, the parents of my friends, and everybody in between. It was rewarding and the fastest hour and a half of my life.

What surprised me the most was that so many teachers talked to me. I met one of my all-time favorite subs for the first time in four years. I met one of my first grade teachers for the first time in nine years. I talked with a teacher at Dow. One woman memorably recognized David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Benedict Cumberbatch from Sherlock and Doctor Who. All of them were impressed and so thoughtful, despite the fact none of them taught art.

So, if you’re here because of my business card, please don’t be intimidated by the Spanish. I’m working on making my posts somewhat bilingual. Again, I’m interested in comments, questions, and even commissions, be it through the comments or my email (am.sebaly221@gmail.com).

Hola! Mucho pasó las dos semanas pasadas. He recibido complementos de mi arte, y estoy agradecida para todos. 

El 20Tiempo exhibición fue una experiencia increíble. No creo que haya palabras para describirlo… pero puedo tratar. Si no sabes, el 20Tiempo exhibición ocurrió en Northwood, 5/13/14, a las 7-8pm. Mi clase de español, y las clases de un IB World Lit presentaron que he hecho. Creo que tuvo éxito.

Compartí la mesa con Maddie. Ella es una artista fantástica, y mi amiga. El arte de ella es a la derecha, y el arte de yo es a la izquierda. No tuve un poster o algo especial; solo mi arte. Tuve seis dibujos. Un dibujo viejo, los Doctors, él, y dos dibujos nuevos.

Yo hablé con alumnos, con padres, y con profes. Y hable con un tópico que me interesa. Encontré una profe que tuve cuando tenía seis años. Encontré una mujer que le gustan Sherlock y Doctor Who tambien. En total, no puedo decir más que fue divertido y increíble.

Este es mi retrato preferido de todos los que he dibujado. Creí que el pelo sea malo, pero me gusta mucho. Decidi dibujar a Emmilia porque su pelo la hacia diferente de los otros retratos. Use una nueva tecnica en el sombreado que hace que el pelo parezca mas natural.

Viva la Cancion de Hielo y Fuego

I did a lot of thinking these past two weeks. What am I trying to accomplish with this project? I'm not able to say this in Spanish, so here's the honest answer. 

I hate a lot of subjects in school. History bores me to death, science confuses me, math gives me physical pain. I like writing, be it in Spanish or English, and I think it's obvious what I think of art. I hate telling adults that my favorite subject is art, because I always get this uncomfortable look back, that 'Oh, that's not an intelligent subject' look. I hate talking to people and having them walk away, concerned that I'm going to be a starving artist in 10 years. I hate coming home to hours of homework in subjects that I hate and that I know I won't pursue an education in. But what I hate the most, is how I'm spending more time talking about what I hate than what anything else. That's about it.

I decided to draw Emilia Clarke/Daenerys Targaryen/"the blonde with the dragons", whichever name you know her by. I did a rough draft that took two hours, then did another which took a little under two hours. Thats four hours total, most of which was honestly spent on the hair. Skin and facial anatomy is easy, you can knock that out in an hour and a half, add a bit of scruff and hair if it's a guy. If it's a girl, chances are the hair will take two hours alone.

Mi profe nos dijo que nuestros proyectos deben ser complicados y llenos de significado. Si puedo contestar 'porque' cinco veces, es un proyecto bueno. Voy a tratarlo ahora.

Que estás haciendo? Estoy haciendo un proyecto de arte. Quiero hacer diez dibujos. Retratos, de la vida, de mi imaginación, de todo.

Porque? Me gusta arte y dibujar. Todo debe hacer cosas que le gustan.

Porque? Todos partes del arte me interesan. La procesa, los materiales, el vocabulario, artistas, y el dibujo. Quiero compartir con el mundo que sí, el dibujo es interesante, pero hay partes inteligentes e interesantes como la procesa.

Porque? Como las otras personas, yo enfoco en el mal. La realidad es que paso más tiempo en cosas que no me gustan más que cosas que me gustan. No es algo nuevo, muchos alumnos hacen el mismo. Quiero hablar más que me gustan.

Porque? El arte siempre me gusta, y a veces es una huida a algo más bueno. Si hay personas que no tienen una huida, quiero compartir con ellos que el arte puede hacer.

Porque? El mundo y la vida son preciosos. Puede encontrar algo especial en todo que puede ver. Mi gol es que yo capturo ese, si es de personas, de la naturaleza, o de algo de la imaginación. No quiero repetirme, pero el sumario es que me gustan arte y dibujar.

La verdad es que Game of Thrones me inspiró a dibujar esta semana. Game of Thrones es una programa fantástica... cuando ellos no se matan en bodas. Dibujé Emilia Clarke. Ella es Daenerys Targaryen, quien tiene los dragones.

Para empezar, quiero hablar de la original foto. La foto tiene una cara más pequeña que el Chris Pine o algo. Tambien, la foto tiene mucho pelo. La estructura de su cara es diferente que los chicos jóvenes y guapos.

No estoy completo, pero es mi segundo vez que lo dibujo. El primer vez, fue caca. Los ojos fueron grande, la boca fue malo, todo no fue bien.

El título es 'Viva la Canción de Hielo y Fuego', porque escucha a la canción 'Viva La Vida' para las cuatro horas cuando dibujé. No puedo olvidarla, aunque quiera. ‘La Cancion de Hielo y Fuego’ es el nombre de los libros de Game of Thrones.
